St. Louis-based Post Holdings intends to shutter its cereal production plant in Clinton, MA by August 2019, impacting 180 workers at the site, a company press release announced Tuesday.

“The planned closure of the facility reflects Post’s continuous improvement initiative to optimize its cereal production network and manage costs in the ready-to-eat cereal category,” the holding company’s statement said.

Acquired by Post in its purchase of Weetabix in July 2017, the company pledged to work with union officials to assess the impacts of the closure on the terms and conditions of hourly workers at the site.

As Powder & Bulk Solids reported this month, Post will invest about $85 million to build a new, 150,000-sq-ft egg processing plant in Norwalk, IA for its Michael Foods business.
