Swiss-owned confections and chocolate manufacturer Lindt & Sprungli is starting to develop plans to add 100,000 sq ft of space to two buildings at its Stratham, NH chocolate plant, local news organizations reported.

Stratham Town Planner Tavis Austin told the Manchester Union-Leader that the project will expand a production building by 81,000 sq ft and a storage and shipping building by 20,000 sq ft. The company also wants to build a new four-story, 112,840-sq-ft parking garage at the site.

The local Planning Board must review the site plan before the project can move forward. Stratham’s Zoning Board of Adjustment also must consider whether or not to allow a height variance for the proposed additions.

If the expansion takes place, Lindt’s headcount at Stratham will increase from 1590 workers to 1820 workers, Austin said in an interview with Seacoastonline.com.

Officials said they intend to carry out a study of potential impacts of the expansion on traffic in the area before the community signs off on the project.
