A joint venture (JV) between American agricultural cooperative Land O’ Lakes and East African firm Bidco Africa, Bidco Land O’ Lakes, announced the opening of a new animal feed manufacturing facility in Nakuru, Kenya on Wednesday. The business said it hopes to produce 28 mt/hr of animal nutrition products at the fully automated plant.
“We are excited and proud to open this facility, a strategic move to invest in the East Africa region. In offering our products and services, we will be able to help Kenyan farmers with the latest tools and technology to help advance their livelihoods,” Dave Hoogmoed, executive vice president of Land O’ Lakes Inc., said in a company press release. “Animal food production is rapidly moving forward in Kenya and the Bidco Land O’ Lakes team is focused and excited to be working with farmers.”
The Nakuru site will manufacture Bidco Feeds brand feeds, as well as Land O’ Lakes Advanced Nutrition products. Bidco Land O’ Lakes also intends to release four new products: Pro Calf Starter, Pro Heifer Developer, Pig Starter 4-4-4, and Pro Calf Milk Replacer.
Land O’ Lakes said processing at the plant will be conducted according to “rigorous standards” and that it will test the quality and nutritional makeup of the ingredients it uses.
The company revealed plans in March 2017 for a new animal feed manufacturing plant in Roanoke, VA to support its Purina Animal Nutrition business. Land O’ Lakes said at the time that the new facility would open in December 2018.
