American food and beverage company Kraft Heinz is moving forward on a $25 million project to install two new production lines, acquire new technology, and conduct renovations at its Garland, TX production facility, the Garland Economic Development Partnership (GEDP) announced in a release Tuesday.
The firm received approval for expansion through the Texas Enterprise Zone Program, an initiative to encourage investment and job creation in “economically-challenged” parts of the state, according to GEDP.
About 250 new jobs will also be created as a result of the project. Under the terms of the state’s Enterprise Zone program, Kraft Heinz must fill at minimum of 35% of these positions with residents from the Enterprise Zone, veterans, or economically disadvantaged candidates.
Lunchables, Oscar Meyer Naturals, Kraft barbeque sauce, and Velveeta Skillets products manufactured at Kraft’s 266,000-sq-ft plant in Garland are sold across the country.
A new chief executive officer took the helm of Kraft Heinz this July. The firm’s board named Miguel Patricio to the role in April after Bernardo Hees decided to step down from the company’s top post.
