German firm Henkel plans to invest $45 million to acquire new equipment and upgrade its Salisbury, NC adhesive products plant to accommodate production of UV acrylic adhesives, the Rowan County’s Economic Development Commission (Rowan EDC) announced in a release Monday.

The project at the Cedar Springs Road facility includes a new production space for the UV acrylic adhesives for tapes and labels used in the consumer foods and packaging industries. Henkel’s Salisbury site will house the company’s first production capabilities for UV acrylic adhesives in North America.

“The Rowan EDC, City of Salisbury, and Rowan County are valued business partners and this investment is a result of working together to generate opportunities that benefit the local economy and community, and support our company’s vision for growth,” Gary Hamblin, director of operations at Henkel, said in a statement. “We’re pleased to expand our Salisbury facility and to continue manufacturing innovative products with a talented workforce, here in North Carolina.”

Henkel also plans to carry out process safety improvements, add a new production line, and expand its existing production lines during the effort, according to Rowan EDC.

North America accounts for 25% of the German company’s sales.
