Manitoba-based Pizzey Ingredients plans to dedicate $3.2 million toward the construction of a new, 20,000-sq-ft milling plant in Delano, MN in a bid to increase its production to meet rising demand, a press release Wednesday from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) said.
“The Pizzey family has been raising flaxseed and other crops for more than 100 years in western Manitoba,” the commissioner of DEED, Shawntera Hardy, said in a statement. “The new plant will help the company meet growing demand for its flaxseed products.”
About 14 new jobs will be created as a result of the project in Delano, according to the state’s release.
Pizzey produces flaxseed for end use in food and beverage products. The North American market for flaxseed is projected to from $250.5 million in 2015 to $308.4 million in 2021, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 2.9%, according to a forecast by Persistence Market Research.
In early 2016, the company invested in an expansion of a plant in Manitoba in response to rising demand.
