Firm to Expand Malic Acid Capacity at Plant in Ontario

Malic and fumaric acid manufacturer Bartek Ingredients plans to add 10,000 MT of malic acid capacity at its plant in Stoney Creek, ON to meet increased demand for malic and fumaric food-grade markets, the company announced in a release Tuesday.

With the additional capabilities, the company will have a total malic acid capacity of 30,000 MT. Bartek expanded the site’s malic acid capacity by 4,000 MT in 2019 and a new 22,500 MT maleic anhydride reactor is slated to be installed in the facility by the first quarter of 2021.

“Bartek is committed to leading the global market in malic and food-grade fumaric acid and ensuring that our global customers are continuously supplied with high quality malic and fumaric products,” the firm’s chief executive officer, John Burrows, said in a statement. “These investments are a vital element of our long-term strategy.”

The company completed a number of additions to its engineering, product development, and process development organizations in 2019. Quality control, assurance, and analytical labs were also refurbished during that project.
