A DowDuPont agricultural chemicals plant in King’s Lynn, UK operated by Dow AgroSciences Ltd is set to close by August of next year, impacting some 65 jobs at the site, several British news organizations reported.

The company announced its plan to shutter the facility on Tuesday and said the move was the result of a “strategic assessment’ to identify sites and facilities where production overlaps are occurring or capabilities could be shifted to other places.

“One of these difficult decisions was to discontinue operations at the King’s Lynn Formulation and Packaging Manufacturing and R&D facility by the end of August 2019,” a DowDuPont spokesperson told the Lynn News. “65 people are currently employed at the site, and the company has initiated an employee consultation process.”

DowDuPont said it intends to offer some of the King’s Lynn workers an opportunity for reassignment to the company’s other sites. The pending closure comes as Dow Chemical and DuPont work to integrate their operations following a merger of the two companies.

The plant has operated at the site for more than six decades.
