Conagra Brands will close its meat products plant in Trenton, MO by May 31, according to a WARN letter notifying the city and the Missouri Department of Economic Development of the company’s plans published by local news radio station KTTN News.

First announced in March 2016, the closure will impact 282 workers at the plant, 252 of which are production and production support workers. The company’s letter said it plans to conduct layoffs in phases, with the first group separated from the company on March 9.

Conagra said it is closing its Trenton plant “to improve efficiencies and effectiveness and eliminate redundancies within its supply chain network.”

Along with closing its Trenton facility, Conagra is also in the process of shuttering several other plants in a cost cutting measure.
