Consumer and professional products maker The Clorox Company is working with officials in Virginia to further its plans to open a new cat litter manufacturing facility in the state, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam announced in a press release this week.

Cat litter produced by Clorox is sold under the Fresh Step and Scoop Away brands.

“The Clorox Company’s desire to expand its presence in Virgnia demonstrates the advantage of having shovel-ready sites and buildings to ensure that global companies of this caliber always have the infrastructure they need to grow in the Commonwealth,” Brian Ball, the state’s Secretary of Commerce and Trade, said in a statement. “Frederick County offers a strategic location with room for future expansion, and would position the company to meet increasing demand for its innovative cat litter products. We pledge Virginia’s support for Clorox to continue bringing economic growth and opportunity for citizens across the Commonwealth.”

Gov. Northam’s release did not include financial terms of the proposed project or details on the production assets the company plans to install at the site.

About 100 jobs will be created if the cat litter production plant opens.
