September 19, 2017
Potato products producer Cavendish Farms broke ground on a new frozen potato processing plant in Lethbridge, AB, Alberta’s provincial government announced by press release Monday.
Slated for completion in mid-2019, the firm is investing CAD$360 million, or about $293 million, in the project. According to the province’s release, the new plant will increase demand for potatoes by 9000 acres.
Government officials said the investment by Cavendish Farms is the “largest ever private investment” in the city’s history. The expansion will double the company’s annual production capacity and feature technologies that reduce the site’s carbon footprint, according to a Dec. 2016 press release announcing the project.
The project will replace an aging Cavendish Farms plant in Lethbridge.
Cavendish Farms operates two processing plants on Prince Edward Island, one in Lethbridge, a plant in Jamestown, ND, and an appetizer production plant in Wheatley, ON.
