Cat Litter Manufacturer to Open New Plant in U.S.

Canada-based cat litter manufacturer Intersand America Corp. recently acquired a parcel of land in the Great Western Industrial Park (GWIP) in Windsor, CO to open a new 46,000-sq-ft production, packaging, and distribution facility. A groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday to mark the beginning of construction on the site, a release issued Tuesday by commercial real estate firm The Broe Group said.

“Expanding our production capability in the United States is an important milestone in our history and we are committed to bringing long term jobs to the Windsor community,” Stéphane Chevigny, president and chief executive officer of Intersand, said in a statement.

Intersand is committing $18 million to purchase the land, build out the new facility, and acquire new equipment, according to a report by the Greeley Tribune. About 35 new jobs will be created at the site over the next five years.

The company selected the Windsor site because of its proximity to bentonite clay mines in Wyoming and an existing rail connection in the Great Western Industrial Park that will enable Intersand to increase the efficiency of its supply chain for raw materials. Great Western Railway of Colorado will provide direct rail service to the new facility.

Cat litter made by Intersand is distributed to more than 47 countries. The company, based in Boucherville, QC, has operated for more than two decades.
