Canadian grain company Viterra announced Tuesday that it has signed an agreement to purchase a pulse processing facility in Belle Plaine, SK from Ilta Grain Inc.

The Saskatchewan facility is capable of storing 22,000 mt of pulses and other commodities and is located on a 135-railcar loop track. Viterra’s recently-acquired plant includes precision cleaning and conveying equipment for shipping and exporting products, as well as logistics capabilities in container, bagged, intermodal, truck, and bulk rail shipments.

“We are pleased to be working towards integrating this high quality facility into our industry leading grain asset network,” Kyle Jeworski, president and chief executive officer for North America at Viterra, said in a company press release announcing the transaction. “We firmly believe that our operational and logistical expertise, combined with our focus on superior service and unrivalled market insight, will allow us to bring this facility to its full potential for the benefit of our customers.”

Workers currently employed at the Ilta Grain plant will be offered jobs with Viterra. The deal is expected to reach completion on August 27 after customary closing conditions are met.
