Global cocoa and chocolate products manufacturer Barry Callebaut recently completed the start up of its new chocolate plant in Rancaekek, Indonesia, the firm announced in an August 23 release. The site is the second production facility the company has opened within three years.

Opened at the Garudafood biscuit factory in Rancaekek, the plant was designed according to Barry Callebaut’s “Plant in Plant” concept, which aims to integrate new production plants into existing factories operated by customers.

The company decided to build the chocolate factory after an additional long-term supply agreement for chocolate and compound was signed with the Indonesian food and beverage firm in November 2018. Barry Callebaut invested CHF 2.8 million, or about $2.8 million, in the project.

Barry Callebaut’s first chocolate plant in Indonesia opened in October 2016 in Gresik.
