Paints, coatings, and specialty chemicals producer AkzoNobel recently held a ceremony to mark the inauguration of its new powder coatings manufacturing plant in Mumbai, India

Investing about $10 million in the project, the site in Thane, Mumbai expands the company’s production capacity for functional and bonded metallic powder coatings.

“India continues to be a high-growth market for AkzoNobel and the launch of the new Powder Coatings facility will only further strengthen our manufacturing footprint in the country,” said Thierry Vanlancker, chief executive officer of AkzoNobel B.V., in a statement. “With this plant we intend to increase capacity in the region, which forms an important part of our organic growth plan.”

The company broke ground on the facility, AkzoNobel’s sixth in the country, in late August 2016.

“Our Powder Coatings business in India has been delivering strong, profitable growth. The new facility will play a critical role in our expansion plans and boost our access to markets located in northern and western parts of the country,” Daniella Vlad, director of Powder Coatings, said in the firm’s release.

AkzoNobel operates another powder coatings plant in Bangalore and recently acquired Thai powder coatings producer V.Powdertech Co. Ltd.
