American agribusiness Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) plans to invest about $146 million in new equipment for its Clinton, IA wet mill to boost the site’s production capacity.
“We are solidifying our presence in Clinton by investing to rebuild our nearly 100-year-old Clinton wet mill,” ADM spokesperson Jackie Anderson told the Quad City Times in a statement.
Opened in the early 1900s, the ADM wet mill is located in a corn processing complex owned by the company that manufactures a wide range of products from corn oil to animal feed, Anderson said in the newspaper’s coverage.
“The equipment in the Mill has reached the end of its useful life and is installed in many of the original plant structures, which are also beyond their economic life expectancies,” the company said in documents filed with the state outlining its plans, the Des Moines Register reported.
The company is committing a total of $196 million to update the facility, with $39.1 million allotted to expand the building’s footprint, $2.8 million for site preparation, and $7.8 million going toward other machinery
“ADM has been in Clinton since 1982. Modernizing and automating the Clinton facility will help the company remain competitive and, hopefully, add more good jobs down the road,” said Iowa Senator Rita Hart (D-Wheatland) in a statement.
Construction is expected to begin this year, with completion planned for 2022.
