American agribusiness Archer Daniels Midland held a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday to mark the opening of its new feed premix plant in Zhangzhou, China, the Chicago-based company announced via press release.

One of four feed plants in China operated by ADM in China, the plant has a capacity of 30,000 mt/yr of feed premixes and 80,000 mt/yr of complete feed and concentrates.

“The Zhangzhou plnt adds perfectly to our animal nutrition network in China,” ADM’s Asia Pacific Director for Animal Nutrition, Hong Yang, said in a statement. “With operations in Zhangzhou, we are better equipped to serve our customers in the southern part of the country.”

Company officials said the move was fueled by increased demand for animal protein in China as the country’s middle class swells.

ADM is “confident that demand for our quality animal nutrition products will remain strong in the next decade and this is why we continue to invest in animal nutrition business at strategic locations across China, including Zhangzhou,” said a statement by Donald Chen, president of Asia Pacific at ADM.
