Automated Bulk Bag Filling System
November 13, 2013
Ensign’s bulk bag filling system repeatedly indexes, fills, and accurately weighs bulk bags automatically. The Allen Bradley PLC and intuitive touch-screen HMI gives operators complete control over manual and automated functions. The password-protected settings module easily allows the system to adapt to changing processes and/or various fill sequences. The filling system utilizes automatically indexing infeed and discharge conveyors to advance pallets and bulk bags through the system. A Parker locking cylinder holds the bag upright during fill start to ensure accurate filling then relaxes the bag onto the weigh table. Material flow from the overhead surge bin is controlled by a pneumatic slide gate, and bags are accurately weighed by four load cells and a Rice Lake SCT conditioner. The integral weigh table also contains twin martin vibrators that densify bags to maximize bag volume. Once the automatic fill sequence is complete, the bag hooks release the bag automatically then it is indexed downstream.
