Spee-Dee Launches New Urethane Split Hopper

Article-Spee-Dee Launches New Urethane Split Hopper

Access for cleaning inside of the hopper and tooling changeover is the main advantage of the new urethane split hopper. Powder fillers mounted on vertical form fill seal machines can be 10 to 12 ft in the air. The access door to change tooling is located on the top of the auger hopper cover, which makes tooling changeover difficult and requiring two people. Furthermore, to clean the hopper it must be removed from the filler. The split hopper eliminates both problems.

Opening the hopper gives access for tool changeover and cleaning, and can now be accomplished by one person using just a short ladder. The split hopper is made from FDA-approved urethane. Its symmetrical design enables the hopper to be mounted so it can open left or right, or right to left. And since it is made of urethane, the hopper is extremely light weight.

The 16-gal urethane split hopper is designed to meet sanitary requirements for cleaning. All radiuses are 6mm rounded. The hopper cover gasket is co-molded to the stainless steel cover. The gasket is FDA-approved silicon, and the seal between the two hopper halves is an FDA-approved Nitrile ring material.
