A subsidiary of downstream energy company Marathon Petroleum Corporation recently purchased the Duonix Beatrice biodiesel production plant in Beatrice, NE in a $11.7 million transaction, according to a local newspaper.

Under the new ownership of Corn Oil Renewable Energy LLC, the facility will handle renewable diesel feedstocks like corn oil, soybean oil, and rendered fats, a company spokesperson, Katie Merx, told the Beatrice Daily Sun.

“The facility will pretreat the feedstocks before shipping them to our renewable diesel facility in Dickenson, ND,” Merx said in the newspaper’s coverage.

Operations are expected to begin at the site in early 2021.

The Associated Press (AP) reported the plant’s former owners, Flint Hills Resources, indefinitely idled the plant in late 2019.
