A worker died Tuesday after becoming trapped in a corn silo at the Didion Milling corn mill in Cambria, WI, a local law enforcement agency announced in a release.

Emergency personnel responded to the site after receiving a call at 9:12 a.m. that a worker was missing, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said in a post on its Facebook page. Officials were told that the person was working in or around a corn silo in a confined space at the time of the incident.

After several hours of searching, crews found the worker dead in a corn silo at the site. The victim was identified as a 52-year-old man from Waupun. His name has been withheld until their family has been notified.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the incident.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of a Didion work family member who was recovered from a grain silo at the Cambria raw corn processing facility on Dec. 8, 2020. It has been a very difficult day for our Didion employee family,” the company said in a statement to ABC News affiliate WKOW. “We are assisting authorities as they investigate the cause of this tragic event and will not be able to release additional details at this time.”

Three workers were killed and 11 were injured in an explosion at Didion’s plant in Cambria in May 2017. OSHA later fined the company $1.8 million for its role in the incident.
