The 54-year-old worker was fatally injured after becoming lodged in the machine early Sunday morning.

A worker died in the early hours of Sunday morning after becoming trapped in a piece of equipment at the Innovative Fibers plant in Spartanburg, SC, local news organizations reported.

54-year-old Anthony Dean Lemmons was fatally injured when the accident occurred at about 1:15 a.m., coverage by television news station WMBF said. The man was pronounced dead about an hour after becoming entrapped.

Innovative Fibers confirmed the worker’s death in a statement to FOX Carolina:

“First responders from the facility and local emergency personnel were immediately notified and were on scene. Production at the plant was stopped and is scheduled to resume at a later date.”

The company told the news broadcaster that it is cooperating with South Carolina OSHA as it investigates the incident.

Innovative Fibers, a subsidiary of Stein Fibers Ltd, is a manufacturer of crimped PET-fibers from recycled materials, according to information on the firm’s LinkedIn page. Its products are used by the non-wovens industries.
