Federal authorities are investigating a workplace death at the Tyson fresh beef packing plant in Dakota Cit, NE.

A spokesperson for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) told local news KCAU 9 that the death occurred Monday morning at the Tyson Foods plant in the warehouse material handling area.

SiouxlandProud.com, the online affiliation of KCAU News, shared a statement from The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 222IN union regarding the death:

"The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 222IN extends our sincere and genuine condolences to the family, friends, and coworkers of our Tyson union member who passed away in a tragic workplace accident earlier this week. We are heartbroken as a union family to lose any of our union brothers or sisters, but to lose someone while they are on the clock is devastating. Our members collectively fight for safe work environments daily, because every employee deserves to earn a fair wage and go home safely to their family at the end of every shift. All parties involved are cooperating fully with OSHA during their investigation; and have a vested interest to make sure all safety concerns will be adequately addressed to prevent anything like this from happening again. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."
