A groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday to mark the beginning of a $60 million project by Tyson Foods to expand its East Pottsville, PA facility, the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development (DCED) announced in a press release.

The food company’s plan will add 164,000 sq ft of space to the site’s existing 182,000-sq-ft footprint. Over the next three years, 114 jobs will be created at the site.

“This expansion will allow us to better service our customers, and ship our complete portfolio of protein-packed brands from one distribution center,” Greg Uecker, senior vice president of network planning and integration at Tyson Foods, said in a statement. “New technology will also improve team member safety, while reducing our carbon footprint.”

Local officials expressed thanks for Tyson’s positive economic impact on the Pottsville area, according to the company’s release.
