Tekna Opens $5.7M 3D Printing Powders Plant in Europe

January 11, 2019

Canada-based firm Tekna recently announced that it has commenced production of spherical powders for additive manufacturing at its new plant in Mâcon, France and shipped the first products produced at the site to clients this past November.

€5 million, or about $5.7 million, was invested to open the site. The facility uses a variety of specialized plasma atomizers to produce a range of materials and alloys. Tekna’s Mâcon plant can produce about 400 to 500 tn/yr of additive manufacturing powders, increasing the firm’s overall capacity to more than 1000 tn/yr.

“In line with the rapid growth of our activities, this major investment enables us to provide our clients with closer support while accounting for the safeguarding of their supply chain and volume expansion, in addition to controlling costs and logistical risk,” Tekna Plasma Europe SAS Managing Director Rémy Pontone said in a statement.

Along with the new production assets, the facility in France also is home to the company’s European Customer Service Center and a laboratory for quality assurance and product development.

Tekna is a subsidiary of Arendals Fossekompani ASA headquartered in Sherbrooke, QC. In addition to its production plant in France, the company also has a manufacturing presence in Canada.
