A fire broke out in a metal tank that was in the process of being dismantled at the Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) corn processing plant in Decatur, IL on Sunday morning, prompting a response from local firefighters, the Decatur Herald & Review reported.

Decatur Fire Battalion Chief Jim Ohl told the newspaper that crews responded to the site after the blaze was reported at about 6:44 a.m. and worked to put out the fire for several hours. Workers at the site attempted to douse the flames prior to the arrival of emergency personnel. Chief Ohl said the vessel possibly contained corn waste at the time of the incident.

The fire was likely smoldering in the tank for several days, according to the official. ADM Spokesperson Jackie Anderson stated in the Herald & Review that no injuries or damages to the plant occurred during the fire.

This May, firefighters worked for more than six hours to put out a fire in the feed house of the ADM corn plant in Decatur. Fire officials determined that the blaze started because hot maintenance work on a piece of drying equipment ignited material.
