Saint-Gobain Sheds France-Based EPS Business

November 6, 2019

A French subsidiary of materials firm Saint-Gobain, Placoplatre, entered into an agreement with HIRSH Servo Group and BEWiSynbra Group to divest its expanded polystyrene (EPS) business in France, the company announced in a release Tuesday. The move comes after Saint-Gobain sold its EPS business in Germany to HIRSH.

The deal includes six industrial sites in France and about 240 workers. Placoplatre’s EPS business logged sales of about €70 million (about $77.4 million) last year. Saint-Gobain said the sale is linked to a broader effort to optimize its portfolio through divestitures.

“Divestments completed or signed by the group to date in order to enhance its growth and profitability profile represent sales of over €3.2 billion [about $3.5 billion],” the company said in the release. “Saint-Gobain is continuing its divestment program even though an initial target of over €3 billion in sales divested by the end of the year has already been met.”

The transaction is slated to close by the end of this year pending to completion of regulatory approvals.
