Responding to an uptick in demand for organic feed ingredients, Perdue Farms division Perdue AgriBusiness revealed plans Monday for a new, $30 million organic grain facility at the Tradepoint Atlantic industrial site located at the Port of Maryland in Sparrows Point, MD.

“We work directly with local farmers and traders in the United States, Europe, South America, and Asia to source organic grain and soybeans,” Dick Willey, president of Perdue AgriBusiness, said in a company press release. “This new complex will be a key part of an integrated supply chain that enables us to increase business and reduce the cost while maintaining the quality of our organic products.”

Perdue, one of the biggest producers of USDA certified organic chicken, said the project will help its organic poultry operations grow in the region. The company also sells a portfolio of grain-related products, including grains, soybean meal, feed ingredients, and edible oils.

The facility will include grain and oilseed processing and milling assets and create about 25 new jobs. A grant to Perdue totaling $350,000 was approved by the state’s Department of Commerce to defray some of the costs of the project.
