American agribusiness Cargill recently opened a new, $70 million headquarters building for the firm’s North American protein business in Wichita, KS, a company release announced Thursday.

“We want to help make Wichita the Silicon Valley of protein, bringing together the best minds, innovation, and technology in the industry,” Brian Sikes, president of Cargill Protein, said in a statement.

The 180,000-sq-ft facility includes a technology conference room to foster connections between Wichita-based employees and their colleagues across the globe; a presentation kitchen; a sensory center for product research, focus groups and product testing; and areas that will work on projects that further Cargill’s sustainability efforts in its protein supply chain.

“Our customers rely on us to bring insights to the table and anticipate what consumers need and want,” Sikes said. “This building, along with our existing Cargill Innovation Center, creates a destination for customers to tap into our expertise and experience the future of protein.”

The site can house up to 950 employees.
