Food products manufacturer The Kraft Heinz Company announced Monday that its board selected Miguel Patricio to serve as the firm’s chief executive officer as the company’s current top executive, Bernardo Hees, prepares to step down from the role. Patricio is slated to take on the new role on July 1.

“Miguel is a proven business leader with a distinguished track record of building iconic consumer brands around the globe, driving top-line revenue growth through a focus on consumer-first marketing, innovation, and people development,” the chairman of the Kraft Heinz board, Alex Behring, said in a press release.

The new CEO previously worked for two decades with Anheuser-Busch InBev, where he held various positions on its executive leadership team and assisted in fostering organic growth and improved margins, according to Kraft Heinz. From 2012 to 2018, he served as AB InBev’s global chief marketing officer, and occupied the role of President of Asia Pacific from 2008 to 2012. He has also held positions at Philip Morris, Johnson & Johnson, and The Coca-Cola Company

“I’ve worked with Miguel over the course of the past 20 years, and he is a natural business leader,” said Herrmann Telles, a member of the Kraft Heinz board, in a statement. “From attracting and nurturing the best talent to leading the turnaround of the AB InBev China business into the phenomenal success it is today. Miguel is one of the best brand-building minds in the industry.”

Hees, who served as Kraft Heinz’s CEO for the past six years, will remain in his post until June 30. The company did not offer details on the circumstances of his departure in the press release.

“He [Hees] helped transform the food industry by leading the acquisition of Heinz in 2013 and the merger of Kraft and Heinz in 2015,” Behring said. “Under Bernardo’s tenure, Kraft Heinz achieved industry-leading margins and sales performance in line with U.S. peers, developed an organization with best-in-industry standards, and built in-house capabilities for category management, including revenue and assortment management. We appreciate his contributions.”
