Mondelez Inaugurates Expanded R&D Facility in Europe

American food and confectionery firm Mondelez International recently held an event its Technical Center in Wroclaw, Poland to mark the completion of a $3 million project that added research capabilitiesfor the firm’s Gum & Candy and Chocolate & Bakery segments, a company release announced Wednesday.

Following the completion of the investment, the Wroclaw Technical Center functions as a hub for research and development for a variety of the firm’s global and local brands, including biscuits, chocolate, and gum and candy. The site includes a large Chocolate & Biscuits pilot plant, a Gum & Candy pilot plant, as well as analytical and sensory labs. Some 200 scientists, engineers, and other workers are employed at the Wroclaw Technical Center.

“The Wroclaw Technical Center is unique not only for its diverse and talented scientists and engineers, but also for its fluency across Chocolates, Biscuits, and Gum & Candy technologies,” Kevin Powell, Vice President RDQ Biscuits and Gum & Candy, said in a statement. “With this new investment, we will be able to surprise and delight our consumers and shoppers with exciting new combinations of technologies, formats, fillings, and much more.”

Mondelez initially invested $17 million to open the facility. This recent project was part of a $65 million investment in the company's large RDQ facilities.
