Kansas Plastics Plant Destroyed in Massive Fire

December 4, 2018

The Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a fire that destroyed a Kansas plastics plant on Sunday afternoon, several local news organizations reported. Fire crews from several municipalities responded to a large blaze at the Formation Plastics plant on Sunset avenue in Quinter, KS at about 4 p.m. and remained overnight to monitor the scene.

“It was a big industrial fire, a lot of equipment and types of plastic, which fueled the fire,” a Quinter firefighter told NBC News affiliate KSNW.

Sheriff Allan Weber said in a report by the Hays Post that the building was completely ablaze when firefighters arrived. Fire crews had to contend with toxic smoke released into the area by the fire.

No employees were in the plant when the blaze ignited, officials told media. A firefighter suffered a foot injury while combatting the fire, KSNW said.

Formation Plastics provides custom thermoforming services at its 14,000-sq-ft plant in Quinter, according to information on the company’s website.
