Jenike & Johanson Turns 50

August 3, 2016

August 3, 2016 is the 50th anniversary of the founding of Jenike & Johanson.

Fifty years ago today, Dr. Jerry Johanson resigned from his job at US Steel’s applied research laboratory in Monroeville, PA and joined Dr. Andrew Jenike, his thesis advisor from the University of Utah, to form Jenike & Johanson in the basement of Jenike’s home in Winchester MA. Dr. Jenike had moved there in 1962 to enter full-time consulting once Dr. Johanson had completed his PhD.

At the time it didn’t appear that there was enough demand for consulting services in this field to justify the two joining together, so Dr. Johanson took a job with US Steel. After four years Dr. Jenike’s workload proved that adding another employee was justifiable. That humble beginning has grown into what is now known as Jenike & Johanson.

In 50 years, the company has expanded to a global organization with offices in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, and three locations in the U.S. It has top engineers in the field of bulk solids storage, handling, and processing. They are dedicated to helping clients with any solids handling problems. Jenike & Johanson experts have dealt with solids on the bottom of the ocean and in space. The company’s involvement in designing pharmaceutical systems that accurately dose micrograms of API through large designs, ensuring that thousands of tons per hour flow reliably into train cars, is testament to the range and problem solving capabilities that it provides.
