JBS USA Plans $20M Upgrade at Plumrose Plant in Iowa

February 11, 2019

Brazilian-owned protein firm JBS USA revealed plans Monday to invest about $20 million to upgrade its Plumrose USA prepared foods plant in Ottumwa, IA. The expansion of the facility will increase the site’s bacon production capabilities.

“Today’s announcement demonstrates our commitment to the Ottumwa community and reinforces our strategy to grow our business through key customer partnerships,” Plumrose USA President Tom Lopez said in a company press release. “This significant investment will create more opportunities for local producers, strengthen our leading portfolio of high quality, value-added pork products, and support the growth aspirations of key customers.”

JBS USA’s Ottumwa facility currently manufactures about 1 billion lbs/yr of fresh pork and bacon products. The investment includes new bacon processing and slicing capabilities, new bacon production equipment and slicing equipment.

The project is expected to reach completion in September this year. About 25 new jobs will be added as a result of the effort.
