HSE Offers Course on Controlling Dust Explosions

November 18, 2019

Great Britain’s workplace health and safety regulator, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is offering a course on combustible dust risks to help employers comply with the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR). The rules were revised and updated this year.

Taking place on Jan. 15, 2020 in Buxton, England, the course, “DSEAR – Controlling Dust Explosion Risks,” provides advice on how to understand the hazards from flammable dusts and how the risks from storing and using the dusts can be managed in compliance with DSEAR.

Attendees will receive a brief overview of DSEAR and instruction on identifying and understanding the hazards, assessing and controlling risks, classifying hazardous areas, and types of equipment for use in explosive atmospheres.

HSE said the course is intended for managers and supervisors of process plants and operations where dangerous substances are used or stored, or safety specialists who need to understand the risks within the framework of DSEAR.

Registration for the one-day course costs £650 per person. The price includes course notes, certificate of attendance, and lunch and refreshments.
