Crews responded to the LafargeHolcim cement plant in Alpena, MI on Thursday morning after a conveyor belt caught in a processing area, several local news organizations reported.

Firefighters were called to the cement plant at about 10 a.m., Alpena Fire Department Captain Rob Edmonds told True North Radio Network.  Upon arrival, crews observed thick smoke in the part of the facility that houses the conveying system.

Reports said the fire was put out quickly and that the structure was only minimally damaged during the incident. The fire will likely have no impact on operations at the facility, a company official said in coverage by the Alpena News

Lafarge’s Alpena plant has a capacity of 2.4 million mt/yr of cement, according to information on the company’s website. Cement from the facility is primarily sold to customers in the Midwest and Ontario.

A conveying system was heavily damaged during another fire at the facility in July 2014, halting operations temporarily.
