Cleaning products and household supplies supplier The Clorox Company is considering a $190 million investment to construct of a new cat litter manufacturing facility in Berkeley County, WV. The company filed a draft plan with Berkeley County this week officials to initiate the development process.

Company officials told the Martinsburg Journal-News that the plant will be built at the Tabler Station Business Park and produce Fresh Step and Scoop Away brands of cat litter when the site becomes operational in 2022.

“I can’t tell you how proud I am that Clorox is exploring this expansion opportunity in West Virginia,” Gov. Jim Justice said in a press release. “Clorox has a proven track record in the Mountain State – both Mineral and Tucker counties have greatly benefited from having the company’s Kingsford charcoal facilities and all the investments the company has made in our local communities.”

Clorox chose the site because of the region’s transportation infrastructure, resources, and the local workforce, according to the governor’s release. Over the next several weeks the company will hold several public meetings and open houses with the local community to discuss the project.

In March 2019, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam announced that Clorox was considering building a new cat litter plant in the state. The plans apparently fell through that June, the Winchester Star reported.
