Bunge Debuts New Edible Oils Processing Plant in Asia

The edible oils business of agribusiness Bunge Limited, Bunge Loders Crocklaan (BLC), announced Thursday that its new edible oils processing plant in Xiamen, China, expanding the firm’s ability to supply the domestic and global foodservice and food industry with plant-based specialty oils and fat ingredients. 

“China is an extremely dynamic and growing food market, and this state-of-the-art processing plant in Xiamen is illustrative of our commitment to not only invest in key local markets, but also create new opportunities for our customers around the world,” Manuel Laborde, vice president Asia at Bunge Loders Croklaan, said in a company press release.

Bunge’s new facility in southern China includes capabilities for a wide range of processes, including refining of oils, modification of oil fractions, and packaging. The site also has a pilot plant and a quality control lab to assist the firm in complying with regulatory requirements and maintaining strict quality control. A Creative Studio was also opened by the company at the Xiamen facility, which will help Bunge to collaborate with the food and foodservice industry to develop new ingredients and solutions for the Chinese market. 

“Bunge Loders Croklaan is a leader in the sustainable plant-based oils and fats industry,” Katherine Huang, general manager of Bunge China Food & Ingredients, said in a statement. “This new facility’s advanced processing capabilities combined with our Creative Studio are a real testament to our commitment to serving both the Chinese and global markets in new and innovative ways.”

A grand opening for the facility was scheduled for July 18.
