Sweet tea and lemonade manufacturer Southern Visions LLP recently held a ground breaking ceremony to mark the beginning of construction on its new, $24 million tea and sugar production plant in Bay Minette, AL, the company announced in a release Monday.

The 125,000-sq-ft site will utilize Southern Visions’ patented Sweet Brew system that produces a mix of tea and sugar that is packaged in pouches.  The company calls the technology “one of the biggest innovations for sweet tea since the introduction of the commercial tea brewer in 1978.”

Southern Visions decided to invest in the project because its distribution partners have reported an average year-over-year increase of over 300%, according to the release. Rail service near the Bay Minette facility will assist the firm in growing its granulated sugar business. Its location along Highway 31 also offers advantages.

Work on the site is slated to reach completion within three years. About 66 new jobs are expected to be created as a result of the investment.

Founded in 2003, Southern Visions primarily serves the food service industry. The family-owned business’ headquarters is located in Loxley, AL.
