Port Tampa Bay officials will decide next week whether or not it will grant a permit to North American flour producer Ardent Mills to construct a $62 million flour mill and grain storage terminal at the site, coverage by the Tampa Bay Times said Thursday.

In December 2018, a 40-year lease was approved allowing Ardent Mills to relocate its existing flour mill in downtown Tampa, FL to a parcel at Port Redwing, the newspaper reported at the time. The initial plans called for a facility capable of producing 450,000 tn/yr of flour.

“[Ardent Mills] decided to increase their tonnage and through-put by using Redwing,” the president and chief executive officer of Port Tampa Bay told the Times last December.

If the permit is issued to Ardent Mills next week, construction is anticipated to be carried out over 18 to 24 months, Thursday’s report said. About 200 construction workers will be needed to complete the project.

Based in Denver, CO, Ardent Mills operates over 40 flour mills and blending plants across the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Canada.
