Air Liquide Plans $270M Expansion Project in U.S.

September 19, 2019

Gases, technologies, and services firm Air Liquide revealed plans Wednesday to invest $270 million to build two new Air Separation Units (ASUs) and infrastructure in Geismar, LA to support a supply agreement it recently signed with Methanex Corporation.

Under the terms of the agreement, Air Liquide will supply oxygen and nitrogen to Methanex’s methanol plant in Geismar. The company will also provide products to other customers along the Mississippi River Pipeline System.

“We appreciate the continued trust show in us by a world-leader like Methanex and remain dedicated to delivering operational excellence through safe and reliable supply,” Michael J. Graff, executive vice president and executive committee member, said in a company press release. “Air Liquide’s significant investment to support this new endeavor by Methanex and enhance our infrastructure in the Geismar Basin further demonstrates our global commitment to energy efficiency, our collaborative approach to meeting the needs of customers, and highlights our outlook for the robust growth of the industry in the Gulf Coast region of the U.S.”

Slated to become operational in mid-2022, the two new ASUs each have a planned capacity of 2500 tn/day of oxygen.

Air Liquide said the project will bolster its presence in the Gulf Coast region and the industrial area between Geismar and Baton Rouge.
