The 5-day course is for prospective professional engineers.
The Society for Mining and Metallurgy & Exploration is holding a five-day PE Review Course Sept. 28 - Oct. 2 at Gaylord of the Rockies in Denver, CO.
The course offers a comprehensive review of the subjects covered in the Principles and Practice of Engineering exam. During this instructor-led course, prospective Professional Engineers (PEs) will establish familiarity with exam topics and interface with subject-matter experts representing the world’s top mining engineering schools.
Instructors of the 2024 PE Review Course are:
• Dr. Raja V. Ramani, Professor Emeritus of Mining and Geo-Environmental Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University
• Dr. Nathan D. Manser, Professor of Practice, Geological and Mining Engineering and Sciences at Michigan Technological University
• Dr. Keith A. Heasley, Professor Emeritus - Department of Mining Engineering at West Virginia University
• Dr. Corby G. Anderson, Professor of Mining Engineering and Director of the Kroll Institute of Extractive Metallurgy at the Colorado School of Mines
• Dr. Jürgen F. Brune, Professor of Practice - Mining Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines
“We look forward to welcoming a class of mining’s next generation of Professional Engineers, instructed by a group of academia’s foremost mining experts” said David L. Kanagy, SME executive director and CEO. “Their contributions to the sector will come during a time of critical importance, when the industry continues to supply the raw materials needed to support modern life.”
This five-day review course will cover 80 questions in the following examination subject areas:
• Exploration (10 questions)
• Mine Planning and Operations (32 questions)
• Environmental and Reclamation (14 questions)
• Mineral Processing (24 questions)
Passing the exam grants Professional Engineer (PE) licensure, which per the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) helps ensure that individuals practice in a manner that protects the health, safety, and welfare of the public by satisfying qualifications in education, work experience, and exams. Licensure can help engineers and surveyors progress in their careers while at the same time ensuring public safety.
