Firefighters responded to a large explosion at the Reading Alloys Inc. metal processing plant in South Heidelberg Township, PA Wednesday afternoon that heavily damaged parts of the structure and left several people with injuries, according to officials and local news reports.

Crews were sent to the scene after receiving a call around 1:30 p.m. that a blast occurred after chemicals reacted with water, TodayPennsylvania.com reported. Two people suffered minor injuries during the incident.

Some sections of the building collapsed, coverage by news broadcaster WFMZ said. An investigation into the cause of the explosion is underway.

Owned by Kymera International, Reading Alloys manufactures metal powders, pastes, and granules.
