CEMA Reports 19.6% Increase in Orders for First Half of 2010

The Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association (CEMA) reports that overall industry orders (bookings) for the first six months of 2010 increased 19.6% compared to the same period in 2009, with total orders of $3.46 billion. CEMA estimates industry billed sales (shipments) of $3.09 billion in the same period.

In the bulk conveying area, orders were up 15.6% and shipments were up 0.6%. Unit handling orders were up 23.1% and shipments were down 5.9%. 
 
CEMA tracks new orders and shipped sales volume in seven classes of unit handling equipment and five classes of bulk handling equipment.  
 
The executives representing CEMA member companies who attended the Fall Meeting expressed cautious optimism and were forecasting a 2% increase in shipments for 2010 (unchanged from March 2010 forecast). CEMA president, Bill Pugh announced the results at the Association’s Fall Meeting in Chicago.
