CEMA Expands Membership to the Americas

The Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association (CEMA) president, Jerry Heathman, announced that CEMA's directors approved expanding membership to all of the countries in the Americas, noting that the Americas are natural and historical markets for the membership and generally use CEMA and North American standards.

Elements of the plan to move in this direction over the next five years include:

a. Approve the addition of Spanish language capability

b. Publish the Belt Book in Spanish

c. Make all CEMA Standards available in Spanish

d. Develop a CEMA Spanish website

e. Increase membership from Mexico

f. Expand membership scope to all of the Americas

Additionally, CEMA will:

a. Establish sponsored generic installation and maintenance training programs that are fundamental best practices with the goal of reducing end user installation and maintenance issues and improving safety

b. Establish that CEMA members should not compete regarding common and non-proprietary fundamental best practices for installation and maintenance practices within product groups

c. Assign the task of developing course syllabuses and content to selected Engineering Conference Committees to be used as the basis for pilot courses with CEMA Member technical and customer service employees

d. Offer CEMA training programs to CEMA members and end users for a fee

e. Explore other training opportunities using CEMA intellectual property

Founded in 1933, CEMA is the trade association of 133 leading manufacturers and engineering firms of The Americas.

CEMA also makes available to member and nonmember companies, safety labels for all types of conveyor equipment as well as useful technical information and manuals. For example, CEMA has available for purchase, Belt Conveyors for Bulk Materials 7th Edition - “The Belt Book” and the CEMA Application Guide for Unit Handling Conveyors – “The Unit Book”. These books are authoritative technical manuals for conveyor design worldwide.
