Webinar: Why Doesn’t My Material Flow and How Can I Improve This Costly Situation?
Eric Maynard, vice president, Jenike & Johanson

On Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at 11 a/m/ Eastern/2 p.m. Pacific, Eric Maynard, vice president, Jenike & Johanson, will present “Why Doesn’t My Material Flow and How Can I Improve This Costly Situation?” as part of Powder & Bulk Solids’ 2020 DryPro Webinar Series, taking place June 2-4, 2020.

Achieving reliable powder and bulk solids flow can be tricky in some cases, whether you are dealing with chemicals, plastics, pharmaceuticals, foods, or metals.  In general, engineers are not taught the fundamentals of bulk material flow, storage, and transport in their undergraduate schooling, and as a result, often rely upon fluid flow principles for engineering guidance.  This webinar will introduce basic concepts of flow problems and silo/bin/hopper flow patterns, which can be key to flow reliability or failure!  This webinar will also highlight material characterization, which is a vital step in understanding what can be the cause of issues, as well as how you can approach a solution. This session will:

  • Cover bulk solids flow problems in silos, bins, and hoppers

  • Understand results of flow problems

  • Review flow patterns and different hopper designs

  • Learn about ways to characterize flow properties

Maynard received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Villanova University and his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. During his 23 years at Jenike & Johanson, he has designed handling systems for bulk solids including cement, coal, limestone, plastic powder, food products, and pharmaceuticals. He is the cement industry specialist at Jenike & Johanson, as well as the technical specialist for dust explosions and powder electrostatic behavior. He routinely lectures on the storage, flow, and pneumatic conveying of bulk solids for the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) continuing education series, private companies, in-house courses, and the Powder & Bulk Solids Conference.
