Texas-based chemicals firm ALTIVIA recently entered into a definitive agreement to purchase Dow Chemical’s acetone derivatives business line and related chemical production assets, a company press release announced Tuesday.

The business produces ketones and carbinols, which are often used in coatings, adhesive and pharmaceutical applications. Dow’s manufacturing assets are located at the 460-acre Institute Industrial Park in Institute, WV.

“Acquiring this facility and associated technology provides downstream expansion for ALTIVIA’s acetone production capacity and access to global markets, for acetone derivatives,” ALTIVIA Chief Executive Officer J. Michael Jusbasche said in a statement. “Additionally, the Institute Industrial Park’s excess capacity of utilities and services provide options to install additional chemical production for a fraction of the cost of alternatives.”

Based in Houston, TX, ALTIVIA currently operates chemicals facilities in Texas and Ohio.
