A ceremony was recently held to mark the grand opening of a new ScottsMiracle-Gro manufacturing plant in Riga, New York, where the firm will produce a goods including fertilizers, premium topsoil, garden soil, and potting mixes sold under the Scotts and Miracle-Grow brands, Empire State Development announced in a Nov. 9 press release.
“From this location, our team will be closer to where our products are consumed which allows us to more rapidly respond to customers as well as to maximize transportation efficiencies,” said Don Dugger, director of Growing Media at ScottsMiracle-Gro, in a statement. “Associates working in our factory will produce some of the most recognizable consumer lawn and garden brands in the world.”
The 60,318-sq-ft facility is located on a 78-acre site, containing outdoor composting areas, bagging operations, and office space. About 20 new, full-time jobs are expected to be created at the new plant. 77 workers at other ScottsMiracle-Gro locations in New York State will be retained as a result of the project.
In a recent announcement of its results from fiscal year 2017, the company said it anticipates sale growth of 4% to 6% over the coming year. Its net sales in the year that ended on Sept. 30, 2017 totaled $2.64 billion.
