Consumer packaged foods firm Post Holdings plans to make an investment of some $85 million to build a new, 150,000-sq-ft manufacturing plant in Norwalk, IA that will be operated by its subsidiary, Michael Foods, the St. Louis, MO-based company announced in a Feb. 16 press release.

Focused on processing eggs and manufacturing pre-cooked egg products, the Michael Foods plant is slated for completion in 2019 and will create up to 150 new jobs covering a range of functions from production to management.

“We looked at numerous locations in the Midwest, and Norwalk has many advantages. We look forward to Michael Foods becoming a preferred employer in the area and being part of the community,” Steve Schonhoff, senior vice president of integrated supply chain at Post Holdings, said in a statement.

Construction is planned to commence this summer. The Post Holdings subsidiary produces brands for foodservice customers like Simply Potatoes and Papetti’s. According to the company, Michael Foods is the biggest processor of value-added egg products in the U.S.

“We are delighted that the internal growth at Michael Foods supports this expansion,” Post Holdings Chief Executive Officer and President Rob Vitale said in a statement. “We believe it will further enhance our position as the nation’s leader in value added egg products.”
