Australian specialty pharmaceutical firm Mayne Pharma recently opened a new, $80 million, 126,000-sq-ft manufacturing plant in Greenville, NC that will quadruple the company’s production capacity for oral solid-dose products, a press release announced Tuesday.
The facility features a containment-oriented design for the production of potent compounds, including single-pass air and multiple air locks for gowning, material, and equipment, 100% HEPA-in and HEPA-out air filtration, quality control lab spaces, and segregated product corridors. Mayne Pharma also installed commercial-scale, solvent-capable, fluid-bed processing and film coating technology.
“This new Greenville facility will greatly enhance our internal capacity and capability to support the mid- to long-term growth potential we see for our business and allows us to manufacture in the United States advanced drug-delivery technologies that until today were only available in our Australian facility,” the company’s chief executive officer, Scott Richards, said in a statement.
Mayne Pharma’s contract development division, Metrics Contract Services, offers formulation development and analytical chemistry testing services at the Greenville plant.
“The new plant will enable us to better control our supply chain, serve our customers better and reduce product costs. In the next few years, Mayne Pharma expects to introduce more than 20 products and double its manufacturing volumes in the Greenville site, driven by the pipeline of products under development, the transfer in-house of several products currently manufactured by third parties, and by providing our Metrics Contract Services clients with commercial contract manufacturing services,” Richards said.
Plans were also announced to renovate the company’s former manufacturing facility in Greenville over the next two years to boost Mayne Pharma’s pre-commercial product development capabilities for contract clients and internally.
